Attendant Position
Position Summary
The Attendant provides direct assistance and supervision to passengers who require additional support during transportation. This may include passengers with physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, medical needs, behavioral concerns, cognitive impairments, or other special needs.
The Attendant is responsible for helping passengers enter and exit the vehicle safely, monitoring passengers during transport, assisting with seat belts and mobility needs, and supporting the driver in maintaining a safe, calm, and professional transportation environment. The Attendant must demonstrate patience, professionalism, compassion, and sound judgment at all times.
Key Responsibilities
The Attendant is expected to:
Assist passengers safely from the pickup location to the vehicle and from the vehicle to the drop-off location, when required.
Provide supervision and support to passengers during the entire transportation process.
Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, seating, and securing seat belts or safety restraints.
Monitor passengers during transport to help ensure their safety, comfort, and well-being.
Provide appropriate assistance to passengers with physical, mental, developmental, or behavioral challenges.
Communicate respectfully and professionally with passengers, caregivers, facility staff, school staff, dispatchers, drivers, and management.
Work closely with the driver to maintain a safe and orderly environment inside the vehicle.
Follow all company policies, safety procedures, client requirements, and transportation guidelines.
Immediately report safety concerns, incidents, passenger concerns, behavioral issues, accidents, delays, or unusual circumstances to management or dispatch.
Maintain confidentiality regarding passenger information, medical needs, addresses, schedules, and personal circumstances.
Remain alert and attentive during the entire route and avoid distractions while passengers are in the vehicle.
Assist with passenger accountability, including confirming the correct passenger is picked up and dropped off at the correct location.
Follow proper sign-in and sign-out procedures when required by schools, facilities, or clients.
Treat all passengers with kindness, dignity, patience, and respect.
Use good judgment when handling sensitive situations involving passengers, caregivers, schools, facilities, or members of the public.
Maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance while on duty.
Follow instructions from management, dispatch, and the assigned driver.
Attend required training, meetings, and compliance updates as directed by the company.
Safety Responsibilities
The Attendant must place passenger safety as the highest priority. This includes:
Ensuring passengers remain seated and properly secured while the vehicle is moving.
Assisting passengers calmly and safely during boarding and exiting.
Watching for unsafe behavior, medical concerns, distress, or changes in passenger condition.
Notifying the driver immediately if a passenger needs assistance during the route.
Helping prevent distractions that may affect the driver’s ability to operate the vehicle safely.
Following emergency procedures in the event of an accident, medical emergency, behavioral incident, or route disruption.
Never leaving a passenger unattended unless specifically authorized and safe to do so.
Required Qualifications
The ideal Attendant should have:
Experience assisting individuals with special needs, disabilities, medical needs, or behavioral challenges.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
The ability to follow directions and company procedures.
The ability to multitask in a fast-paced transportation environment.
Good judgment, patience, and emotional control.
Attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety.
The ability to work cooperatively with drivers, dispatchers, management, caregivers, and facility staff.
A professional and respectful attitude.
Reliability, punctuality, and dependability.
The ability to maintain confidentiality.
The ability to pass all required background checks, screenings, and company compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
Prior experience in non-emergency medical transportation, school transportation, caregiving, healthcare, special education, or direct support services.
CPR and First Aid certification.
Experience working with children, seniors, individuals with disabilities, or individuals with behavioral or developmental needs.
Knowledge of passenger safety, mobility assistance, and proper supervision practices.
Physical Requirements
The Attendant may be required to:
Stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist passengers as needed.
Help passengers enter and exit vehicles safely.
Assist passengers using walkers, canes, wheelchairs, or other mobility devices, when applicable.
Sit for extended periods during transportation routes.
Remain alert and attentive throughout the route.
Perform duties in different weather conditions when assisting passengers to and from the vehicle.
Professional Conduct Expectations
The Attendant is expected to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times. This includes:
Speaking respectfully to passengers, caregivers, school staff, facility staff, drivers, and management.
Avoiding arguments, inappropriate language, or unprofessional behavior.
Refraining from using personal phones or other distractions while responsible for passenger supervision.
Reporting concerns promptly instead of attempting to handle serious issues without guidance.
Representing the company in a positive and professional manner.
Following all safety, attendance, dress code, communication, and conduct policies.

Compliance Requirements
